It would be really easy to just write off the entire Holiday season this year. With all the current restrictions in place, celebrations are looking a lot different. Halloween already looks far from normal with most health officials advising people to avoid trick-or-treating or any potentially crowded event. But, that might just be an even better reason to throw a (socially distanced) party with your close friends and family. And if you’re looking for a costume idea, you’ve come to the right place! I’m sharing 10 DIY Halloween Costume ideas perfect for pairs (or groups in some cases)!

Personally, I’ve never been a big fan of store bought costumes. They’re typically overpriced, made of cheap materials, and you’ll probably only wear it once.

Instead, I prefer to find some inspiration and get creative with my own closet! There are tons of costumes out there you can easily recreate using items you already own or can purchase for fairly cheap. And by creating costumes this way, you’ll avoid shelling out big bucks for something you’ll wear once and then stick in the back of your closet and forget about.

Throwbacks

Just like a good classic never goes out of style, neither do these costume ideas! From classic cartoons to tv shows, you can find a ton of inspiration from your childhood or teenage years!

I mean, is anyone surprised I started this list off with a Disney duo? Of course not. Sheriff Woody and Bo Peep make for an adorable couple’s costume idea that’s easy to pull off with just a few pieces. Planning a costume idea for a group? Invite Buzz, Jessie, and the whole gang to come along!

525Bonus points if you manage to work the phrase, “Move it, football head!” into the conversation at least once during the night. Other throwback cartoons that would make for fun costume ideas include Doug, Dexter’s Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, and Recess.

Looking for a group costume idea for you and your gal pals? It doesn’t get more iconic than the cast of Sex and the City. Pull together something fun and a little Avante Garde for Carrie, sexy and chic for Samantha, professional and strong for Miranda, and feminine for Charlotte. Oh, and don’t forget a killer pair of heels!

Speaking of iconic ladies, has there ever been a more iconic set of besties than. Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck? (The correct answer is no.) This is another one that’s easy to switch it up depending on your group. For couples, make it Minnie & Mickey or Daisy & Donald. Or, get the whole gang together with Goofy too!

Even though it’s been a weird /crazy /wild /messed up year, there have still been some pretty memorable moments. And memorable moments can. make for great costume ideas! So can beloved and iconic characters.

I don’t think any TV show could be more representative of 2020 than Tiger King. And it makes for a great (and hilarious) costume! With animal prints and plaid flannels on-trend, putting these looks together couldn’t be easier. Alternatively, if you really want to go all out, you could find a sequin shirt or fringe jacket for Joe.

Almost 8 years after this show went off the air and we’re still questioning that final twist. Blair & Serena have become quite the iconic duo and, if you and your bestie are fashion queens, the perfect costume. Or, if you’re looking for an idea for you and you’re guy, go as Blair & Chuck!

Another duo that’s not only become iconic but revered as one of the best TV love stories of all time. Dress up as Jim Halpert and Pam Beasely and you may just win the cutest couple of the night. Another fun The Office-inspired costume idea? Jim & Dwight!

Cliches

Drawing inspiration from cliches can make for some humorous costume ideas. And just because it’s considered cliche, doesn’t mean it has to be boring!

Let’s face it, Fall and Pumpkin Spice go together like, well, Fall and Pumpkin Spice! So put on your most Insta-worthy Fall outfit, hand your other half a green apron and a ball cap, and let the world know that it’s totally okay to be “basic”.

If you really like to keep your costumes simple and easy to put together, this is definitely the route for you. A pair of animals ears for one person, flannel and a straw hat for the other, and voila! Instant costume. Alternatively, you could also grab a camo jumpsuit and some ears and go as a hunter and a deer.
