There’s a reason so many artists sing about blue jeans, from Train and the angel in blue jeans to Miley Cyrus and her old blue jeans. A good pair of denim can be casual and comfortable, sleek and sexy, dressed up, dressed down, and everything in between. They can also be a pain to shop for if you’re petite. Not all brands cater to petite babes and not all of the ones that do offer the latest styles. So, I’m rounding up my current 5 favorite pairs of petite denim!

And since y’all know I’m all about a good deal, all of these jeans are under $100. Because, as far as I’m concerned, you don’t have to break the bank for a well-fitting pair of denim. In fact, some of the brands I’m going to mention I only shop when they have a good sale (there’s a reason my Instagram bio says ‘Chic But Cheap’).

And if you want more denim recommendations, check out this post about my favorite affordable places to shop for petite jeans!

Melisa High-High-Waisted Flares from Sofia Vergara at Wal-Mart

Favorite Petite Jeans; Sofia Vergara Melisa Flares in short length

I’ve had this pair for about a year now and they get a ton of comments every time I post them on the ‘gram. They’re high-high-waisted without feeling like they come all the way up to your ribcage and the material has a good amount of stretch to it. They also come in a ton of washes and are available in regular and short lengths and plus size. Currently, they also have faux suede and faux leather versions! I do recommend going up a size in those. Stock can go in and out of these but, at under $30 a pair, they’re worth keeping an eye out for.

While we’re talking about Wal-Mart jeans, I want to mention these Scoop flares. They’re another favorite pair but are currently not available. However, if they come back, I recommend snagging a pair!

FlexX Ripped Cropped Skinny Jeans from Express

Best Petite Jeans; FlexX Skinny Ankle Jean from Express in short length

These were a recent purchase that I’ve been raving about! Hands down the most comfortable pair of jeans in my closet. The FlexX line of jeans is super stretchy and, unlike most jeans, come in sizes XS to XL (versus a numerical size). They’re also available in regular, short, and tall lengths. You can find this exact pair on clearance for under $40 right now, however, sizes are limited. I plan to try some of the other styles in this line because, again, they’re extremely comfortable and the fit is very flattering in my opinion. My one complaint would be that I hope to see Express expand their sizing for all of their jeans to include plus sizes.

Break It Down Petite Flares From Mint Julep Boutique

Best Denim for Petite Women; Break It Down Flares from Mint Julep Boutique in Petite

These flares come in regular and petite. I can’t properly explain how excited I was to see a boutique offer denim in petite and I wish more brands would embrace us shorties. The material reminds me more of a jegging style; there’s a ton of stretch and they suck you in, in a way that’s very flattering in my opinion. Two things to note. These are offered in junior sizing. I’m typically a size 4 or 6 depending on the brand and I bought a size 5. They fit, but the waistband is a little snug so I might have preferred a size 7. Also, they are currently out of stock at the time I wrote this post. But Mint Julep has a restock notification option so you can sign up for an alert when they become available in your size.

High Rise Super Skinny Ankle Jean from Abercrombie

Favorite Petite Pairs of Denim; High Waisted Super Skinny Jeans in extra short length

I’m still not sure when A&F made the switch from preppy high school style to denim destination, but I’m not mad about it. They’re the first brand I’ve seen offer jeans in an extra short length (American Eagle eventually followed) which is awesome for those of us that occasionally find short lengths to still be a little too long. For me, being just shy of 5′, I like the extra short length for jeggings and skinny jeans. For wider leg styles, like flares, I prefer the short length. At around $80, these are on the expensive side for me but the quality is worth it. In fact, I’ve had the pair pictured for over a year and they don’t even look worn. (Bonus, at the time of wiring this, this similar pair on clearance for under $40!)

Super High Rise Distressed Straight Leg Jean From Wild Fable at Target

5 Favorite Petite Jeans; Straight Leg Ankle Jeans from Wild Fable at Target

Okay, I know these don’t come in a petite or short length, but hear me out! I’m including these for a reason. I actually own two pairs of these, an older pair that came in a darker wash and this lighter wash that’s currently available. And I probably reach for them more than any other pair of pants in my closet. Yes, they were a little too long when I bought them but, that’s easily remedied. Since they already have a raw hem, I just trimmed off the excess fabric. For only $22, they’re so worth it. The quality is surprisingly good and the silhouette is so versatile for styling. I recommend sizing up as the material has little to no stretch.
