Swimsuit season starts soon. And maybe for some of you, it’s already started. As much as I’m a summer girlie and dream of lounging by the pool, I still dread swimsuit season. Especially this year. In fact, a few weeks ago I did a Target swimsuit try-on on Tik Tok and found myself disappointed by the styles available. Everything seemed to fall into one of two categories- either matronly or super skimpy. What about swimsuits for the rest of us that still want to look cute but not risk an indecent exposure charge? Don’t worry, I’ve got you! I rounded up my picks for cute, curvy, and covered swimsuits for 2023.

I personally love all the great trends we’re seeing in swimwear. From bright and bold colors to cut-out details to embellishments to mix-and-match pieces and more. But, I still want my swimsuits to cover the areas that make me feel self-conscious. For me, that’s definitely my apron belly and side boob area. I also want my swimsuit to feel secure and comfortable. And not like one wrong move will cause me to give the rest of the beach a peep show.

All of my picks for cute, curvy, and covered swimsuits offer medium to full coverage in the bottoms, security in the top, and still have a little bit of sass.

This Amazon swimsuit I found two summers ago was the first bikini style I had felt cute and confident in since I was a kid.

One Piece Swimsuit Styles

Did anyone else hit a point in their life where they felt like it wasn’t “cool” to wear one-piece swimsuits? For years, I remember only wearing tankini-style swimsuits because I wanted coverage but didn’t want to wear a full one-piece. For a long time, those were too “boring”. Not anymore! One-piece swimsuits came a long way in recent years with cute cut-out details, embellishments, fun prints, and more. For those who like something a little more risque, there’s also a plethora of monokini styles available. But, for me, I enjoy being able to find swimsuits that offer the security and coverage of a traditional one-piece in more trendy styles. Below I put together some of my favorites for this year, all for under $50.

After being disappointed in the swimsuit selection this year from one of my favorite retailers, I was so happy to find this bright and fun floral print swimsuit.

Bikini Swimsuit Styles

If I could thank the fashion influencer social media world for one thing, it would be the confidence to rock a bikini. Up until recently, I hadn’t worn a true bikini since pre-middle school. As a kid through my teenage years, I was overweight and very much bullied for it. Even by adults in my life. So the last thing I wanted to do was put my insecurities on display in a bikini. But these days we see literally thousands of beautiful curvy babes rocking swimsuit bodies of all sizes and shapes on social media. And I’m here for it! It also doesn’t hurt that bikini styles have evolved to offer a little more coverage for those of us who want it. Below I’m sharing some of my favorite recent finds that come in a higher waist and provide a little more coverage.

An Important Reminder…

To get a “beach body” all you have to do is have a body and be on a beach. Like many others, I’ve been disappointed to see a return in certain styles that seem to only highlight specific (and unrealistic) body types. But, unlike when I was a teenager, we have something today that we didn’t back in the early 2000s. We have the fashion blogger community. Even if magazines and fashion marketing choose to push an unrealistic beauty standard, we have the ability to find and embrace a community of diverse body types. Style has no size and we all deserve to wear whatever the hell we want.

So wear the swimsuit -in whatever styles make you feel beautiful.
