A few years ago, Scott and I owned a home in Charlotte, North Carolina. I had a running list of about 1,573,023 home improvement and decorating projects I wanted to complete to make our home feel more like home. Problem being, at that time, Scott and I were still trying to make it in our careers. Money was pretty tight and our budget didn’t allow for luxuries like painting, new floors, or home décor shopping sprees. In the 2+ These days, our budget is a lot friendlier. However, our living situation is more temporary. We’ve lived in two cities (in two different states) in the past two years, and we’re planning to move to another city in the next few months (all part of a strategic plan to get us to the place we want to settle down in, which is the goal with our next move). With our current plan, it’ll be another year before we buy our next home. Because the last place we lived and our current home were rentals that we only intended to stay in for a year, we didn’t even unpack all of our things, let alone do much in the way of decorating. That’s going to change with this next move. We originally thought about buying again with this move, but Scott decided he’d be more comfortable renting for a year in a new city (at least, new to him) before committing to buying a house. So, we made a deal: I’d agree to renting again if he agreed to actually unpacking all of our things and decorating (within reason, since it would be temporary). Which means I’ve spent a lot of time lately window-shopping décor items (my Amazon shopping list is growing longer every day and I’m just waiting for an official move date to click that purchase button). So, today, I’m rounding up some of my favorite farmhouse décor finds from Amazon. I am swooning over this adorable sign made from barnwood-look planks and galvanized letters. Measuring almost 5 feet long and a little more than 6 inches tall, I think it will look so cute in an entry way or over a large doorway. And since I’ve seen a ton of cute signs at home décor stores that have given me sticker shock, I’m loving the affordable price on this one. How cute are these? I’ve been searching for a canister set for my kitchen and these are definitely high on my list of contenders. The distressed vintage patina makes them a perfect fit for my shabby-chic farmhouse style. This canister set is also a top contender for me. I love the antique finish. And since it comes with six different labels, I can customize the canisters to fit my needs. The only drawback for this set is that the price is a little steeper than the other canisters. One of my really simple functional décor ideas is to switch out all the random hand soap and dish soap bottles for cute mason jar containers (the bonus is that I’ll be able to buy bulk sizes of these products to save a few dollars and be more eco-friendly). There are tons of listings on Amazon for pre-assembled mason jar dispensers, but I already own several mason jars of various sizes. So, my plan is to paint the jars I already own with white chalk paint and attach these lids. (Also, the preassembled dispensers can be a little pricey. This 4-pack of lids is super affordable and mason jars can be bought in bulk from Amazon or craft stores for pretty cheap). Another of my simple décor ideas is to pick up several throw pillow inserts and use pillow covers to customize the look I want as well as be able to change out pillows for seasonal décor (an idea I picked up from my friend Hali of DammitHali. She and her husband are currently renovating the home they bought last year and she has a million great ideas shared on her blog). The other bonus to this is that the pillow covers can be removed and washed. In a home with three dogs, I’m a big fan of anything I can throw in the washing machine. Because the quote on this pillow cover fits my big, crazy, Southern family to the “T”, it’s a must have item on my shopping list. Growing up in the country, I have a deep-seeded love for plants and flowers. I envision my home as a bowery of pretty blooms and lush greenery. However, I have two issues with buying live plants. One) The green-thumb genetic code that blessed some of the people in my family (like my grandparents whose property looks like a botanical garden) apparently skipped me. And two) I’m fairly certain Lola would try to eat them. So, my plan is to find some pretty faux potted plants, like this Fiddle Leaf Tree. I’m a fan of this one in particular because it’s a good size at 4’ tall but not overly full. And since some trees like this can cost upwards of $100, I’m liking the price tag. (The reviews are a little mixed but, for this price, I think it’s a good deal if you have realistic expectations). One of my favorite décor ideas (and one I use pretty often), is to display seasonal floral stems in decorative containers. I am obsessed with this distressed milk pitcher vase. I can just picture it sitting on my kitchen counter or on an entry-way table filled with a lavender bunch or cotton stems. It’s a fairly good size to use for an accent piece and comes in beige, blue, or grey. Oversized wall clocks have been super trendy lately in farmhouse décor. I’m in love with this one from Oldtown Clocks. Their designs come in a range of sizes and finishes, but I’m a big fan of the whitewash finish. Paired with the metal accents, it’s just so perfectly farmhouse chic. These simple shabby-chic shutters are so pretty. They’re made from genuine reclaimed wood, so each piece is unique with knot holes, nail holes, dents, and scratches. I love a good décor piece that comes with character! I’m imagining these on my living room wall flanking a large picture frame or an old window. (Compared to similar items I’ve seen at Hobby Lobby, the price on these is really fair. And you’re supporting a family-owned business!) Okay, so obviously this isn’t a décor item that I’ll be installing in a rental home (unless I figure out a way to make installing it and taking it down not cause any damage), but I love this chandelier so much. How gorgeous would it be over a kitchen island? There’s even a matching flush mount light available. I have both saved on my Amazon shopping list and if they get discontinued before I get the chance to buy them, I will cry. Stay tuned for more décor! Our moving date is hopefully coming soon (there are a few factors making the timeline a little sketchy at this point). After we get unpacked and I unleash my inner interior designer (she’s been really impatient lately), I’ll be introducing a series of posts on décor ideas for renters.Barnyard Designs Large Vintage Wooden Farmhouse Sign
